Restoring Periodontally Involved Teeth

Periodontal Restorations

As with any treatments done in our office, periodontal restorations are done with the least amount of pain possible. Non-surgical treatments are always preferred, if possible, such as scaling and root planing. This type of procedure is done to remove plaque and calculus in order to control the growth of bacteria below the gum line. Antibiotic therapy may also be necessary to control infection.

People who have what is called a gummy smile generally feel their teeth look shorter than they are, which is basically an illusion that takes place because of swelled or infected gums. A crown lengthening procedure may be the procedure to be done to expose your teeth and give you back your smile.

In order to stop the progression of periodontal disease and gum recession a number of treatments may be used, including soft tissue grafts to repair damage and cover exposed roots. Soft tissue grafts can help reduce the loss of bone and protect the roots from decay.

In severe cases of periodontal disease, surgery may be necessary, and that will be determined on a case by case basis.
